Paine Proffitt is an award-winning artist working and living in England, concentrating on sports art with a by-gone era feel. He is a Port Vale supporter, has a soft spot for a few of the clubs that he has worked closely with and absolutely loves match days.

Paine has been hired to do the programme covers for many football clubs including West Bromwich Albion, Sunderland AFC, Aberdeen FC, Port Vale, Grimsby Town, Aston Villa, Derby County, Brentford, and Nottingham Forest. The artist has only been star-struck once, upon meeting West Brom legend Tony Brown. Paine froze and just stared at the star, who turned out to be an absolutely lovely man. Proffitt still gets excited to see his artwork in print.

Proffitt’s original painting of Satchel Paige’s All-Stars is in the permanent collection of the National Pastime Museum. He has another piece in the collection of the Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum in Cooperstown, NY.

He discovered hockey while living in Philadelphia as a boy, and despite the heartache that his Flyers have given him, Paine has loved the game ever since. Paine studied at the Rhode Island School of Design where he played for the art school’s hockey team: The Nads. During that time he also became a big Phillies baseball fan. After graduation, Proffitt worked as an illustrator for a decade before giving it up to focus on his own artwork and vintage sports paintings.

Paine gets excited at the sight of a ballpark or football ground and loves that first magical glimpse of the floodlights and stands. Paine Proffitt’s artwork has a lovely nostalgic quality that evokes a sense of history. His artistic influences include CRW Nevinson, Chagall, Picasso, Basquiat, Fred Otnes, writers, and musicians. Using a variety of styles, collage, and Art Deco, his unique art stirs memories of a more simple time and the Golden Age of Sports.

Proffitt is the latest artist to join our group. His style nicely compliments the work of the other artists.
