Episode 18: Stories from the Hockey Room.

“Cue the really old commentary from the hockey game!”

In this video, the son of artist Jeremie White playfully mocks the format of the ‘Stories from the Hockey Room.’ The sports artist chats with his youngest son about his childhood card collection, stealing money from his Dad, fear of the wooden spoon, and how it all led to the series of hockey card paintings.

“Tell them about how you stole five dollars from Papa.”

The father-son conversation recalls the artist’s initial love of collecting cards, connecting with his idols, and the chalky bubble gum inside the O-Pee-Chee wax packs. The talk provides the backdrop showcasing the series of Jeremie White’s hockey card paintings.

Over the years, the series of paintings have featured stars like Wayne Gretzky, Bobby Orr, Ken Dryden, Tony Esposito, Darryl Sittler, Tim Horton, Stan Mikita, and Guy Lafleur. The artist loves honouring his 1970’s favourite Vancouver Canucks like Bobby Lalonde, Gary “Suitcase” Smith, and Pat Quinn; celebrating the playing careers of journeymen and legends. The collection of hockey card paintings has also featured Phil Esposito, Denis Potvin, Borje Salming, Ron Ellis, Jacques Plante, Steve Shutt, Henry Boucha, Phil Myre, Terry Harper, Greg Polis, Leo Boivin, and Todd Ewin.
